Lauki Wali Chana Dal
Lauki Wali Chana Dal, a simple dal prepared with Ghia (Bottle Gourd , Doodhi) and Chana Dal is popular in all regions of India and can be prepared in pressure cooker. The addition of Chana dal enhances the flavor and makes it healthier without increasing the cooking time.

250 grams gourd / Lauki / Ghia ¼ cup split black gram chana ki dal 1 onion chopped 3-4 cloves Garlic 2 tomatoes choppe 1 green chili or according to your taste ½ inch Ginger 1 -2 Tbsp. oil or ghee 1 pinch asafetida ¼ tsp cumin ¼ tsp turmeric powder ½ tsp coriander powder ¼ red chili powder salt as per taste 2-3 Tbsp. coriander leaves finely chopped
Fry chopped onion, garlic in hot oil till light pink
Grind tomatoes, green chilies and ginger finely with a mixer.
Put oil in the cooker and heat it. Add asafetida and cumin seeds.
After roasting asafetida, cumin seeds, add turmeric powder, coriander powder and red chili powder.
Stir the spices with a spoon, and add the ground tomato mixture,
Fry the masala till oil starts to float on it.
Put bottle gourd and gram dal in the roasted spices, stir with a spoon and fry for 2-3 minutes.
Add 1 1/2 cups of water and salt and mix, close the cooker.
After 1 whistle in the cooker, slow down the gas.
Let the dal cook on low gas for 4-5 minutes, turn off the gas.
After the pressure in the cooker is over, open the cooker and mix green coriander in the Dal.
Lauki wali dal is ready. Take out in a bowl.
Garnish with green coriander leaves and serve with chapati, naan or paratha.
