- Donations & Charity (Daan-Punya) – Donating food, clothes, sesame seeds (til), blankets, and cow feeding on this day brings prosperity and merit (punya).
- Fasting & Worship – Devotees observe fasts and worship Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, and Goddess Lakshmi. People consider reading or listening to the Satyanarayan Katha highly beneficial.
- Sant Ravidas Jayanti – Magh Purnima is also the birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas, a great saint
and reformer of the Bhakti movement. - End of Kalpavas – In Prayagraj, Magh Mela and Kalpavas (a month-long spiritual retreat) conclude on this day,
with thousands of devotees performing the final ritualistic bath.
Mythological Significance
According to Hindu scriptures, the month of Magh is considered sacred because deities descend to Earth to bathe in holy rivers.
People say worship and penance in this period bring ultimate salvation (moksha).

माघ पूर्णिमा हिंदू पंचांग के अनुसार माघ महीने की पूर्णिमा तिथि को कहा जाता है। यह दिन धार्मिक और
आध्यात्मिक दृष्टि से अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण माना जाता है। माघ पूर्णिमा को विशेष रूप से तीर्थों में स्नान,
दान और पूजा-पाठ के लिए शुभ माना जाता है।
माघ पूर्णिमा का महत्व
- तीर्थ स्नान – इस दिन गंगा, यमुना, संगम (प्रयागराज) और अन्य पवित्र नदियों में स्नान करना अत्यंत पुण्यदायी माना जाता है।
कहा जाता है कि इस दिन स्नान करने से समस्त पापों का नाश होता है। - दान-पुण्य – माघ पूर्णिमा पर दान का विशेष महत्व होता है। अन्न, वस्त्र, तिल, गुड़, घी,
और कम्बल आदि दान करना शुभ माना जाता है। - व्रत और पूजा – इस दिन भगवान विष्णु, शिव और माता लक्ष्मी की पूजा की जाती है।
साथ ही, सत्यनारायण व्रत कथा का भी आयोजन किया जाता है। - ऋषि पंचमी और संत परंपरा – इस दिन संत रविदास जी की जयंती भी मनाई जाती है,
जो भक्ति आंदोलन के महान संत थे। - संगम स्नान और कल्पवास – प्रयागराज में माघ मेले के दौरान कल्पवास करने वाले साधु-संत और
श्रद्धालु माघ पूर्णिमा पर विशेष स्नान और पूजा करते हैं।
पौराणिक कथा – माघ पूर्णिमा
पौराणिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार, माघ मास में देवता स्वयं पृथ्वी पर गंगा स्नान के लिए आते हैं। इसी कारण माघ पूर्णिमा पर
तीर्थस्थलों में स्नान का विशेष महत्व बताया गया है। इस दिन भगवान विष्णु की पूजा करने और व्रत रखने से मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है।
